About us

On Stage Theatre Arts Academy has been established for over 16 years. It was founded by the late Chris Fox, and the now sole Principal, Liz Coggins.

In the early days of conception classes were held in the old Civic Theatre and 12 years ago we moved over to The Carriageworks Theatre. We present at least two shows a year one in The Carriageworks Theatre Studio and our second show is at The Famous City Varieties, Leeds.

Our students are also regular guest performers as part of the Scarborough Open Air Festival which is produced by our patron, the impresario and producer, Tony Peers.

All the Academy students and staff are involved in these shows and students get experience of appearing alongside guest professionals. This year our show is Those Were The Days in November at The City Varieties, giving students once again the chance to tread those world-famous boards.

At On Stage we pride ourselves on our high standard of teaching and results.

Staff are qualified professionals in their field and many of our contributing supporters still work in professional theatre today.

Whilst  demand is high and places are limited we intentionally only have small classes in each different level.

Students receive a stimulating all round training  in all aspects of performing arts. Whether they aspire to perform; are an absolute beginner or an experienced performer there is something to capture their interest, develop their potential, increase their knowledge and encourage their creativity. Through attending our classes students quickly learn to gain confident in their own abilities.

We have four different levels or classes during each term: -

Little Stars (3 - 5)

Junior Course (5 - 8)

Intermediate Course (8 - 12)

Senior Course (12 - 16)

There are three terms a year.  We have limited places available on all courses. All students joining in September will be involved in our next professional show.

Because of our experience “in the business” we do not do "taster" days. On application we ask for a non-returnable deposit which covers the administration costs and the first session. If the student decides to continue this is deducted from the fee due. We believe this is a fairer way as the student gets chance to participate in classes as they really are and gain an experience of what they can expect.

All deposits/fees are payable in advance at the beginning of each term. There is a  discount for two or more children attending from the same family on both the first and second terms. Please find a downloadable  application form here or for further details please email us or call 0113 2628033.
